DEFINITION

Mommy makeover is the transformation that is performed surgically in all female patients after childbirth. During pregnancy, the patient undergoes multiple physiological changes in her body, in most cases, the changes that occur in the patient’s body usually disappear after delivery, but in others there are permanent changes, the most frequent being the increase in weight and fat tissue, the appearance of flaccidity of the skin of the abdomen after childbirth, stretch marks, loss of skin smoothness and volume of the breasts.

To correct and improve these changes after childbirth, a series of surgical interventions are performed in combination, this means that breast and abdominal surgery are usually addressed at the same time. On the one hand raising and increasing the breasts either with silicone implants or with fatty tissue, on the other by performing a liposculpture with abdominoplasty.

With this type of surgical procedure, the figure that she had prior to pregnancy is returned to the mother and in many cases the figure she had is even improved, restoring a large part of the woman’s self-confidence and allowing her to enjoy her life without any kind of physical complex.

CANDIDATES

All those female patients who have been mothers, who medically have good conditions to undergo surgery and above all who no longer wish to have more children, since the results of the surgeries could be modified after a new pregnancy.

It is important that the patient understands that she is going to undergo a surgical procedure, the possible risks that it may entail and the results that can be achieved in each case. The patient must be motivated to take this step to change and to face recovery and postoperative care with enthusiasm.

PROFESSIONALS

The realization of this type of intervention must be performed by a plastic surgeon with experience in body contouring surgery. Dr. Ospina has extensive training in his native Colombia in this type of intervention, where it is performed very regularly, which allows him to obtain results that are above average.

This type of intervention, when combined, is long and takes about six hours in the operating room, therefore it requires significant physical effort and maintaining a high level of concentration for several hours. This is why Dr. Ospina physically trains to be in shape and to be able to carry out this surgery. He is also using new technologies which reduce fatigue and allow to further improve its results.

FACILITIES

This type of intervention must be performed in a hospital that meets all health requirements and has an intensive care unit. Cosmetic surgery is a very regulated surgery with fewer complications, but in case they appear, it is essential to have the support of a good hospital. Hence, low-cost surgeries try to save money on this and are performed in small clinics where these safety conditions are not covered.

Dr. Ospina is fully aware of this and that is why he performs all his surgeries in the operating rooms of Hospitals San Roque because it provides that extra security that he wants for his patients.

RECOVERY

For the return to normal life (about three weeks are necessary), you should continue using compression garments throughout the first months as appropriate. On the other hand, after the surgery the patient must start a protocol of therapies that will be explained and delivered to the patient before the intervention. It also requires the readjustment of their nutritional and sports habits, which will be progressively reintroduced from the first weeks.

Various types of protocols are applied to improve scars, in addition to complementing surgical treatments with others to improve stretch marks, such as the fractionated CO2 laser (link to CO2 laser) or microneedles (link to microneedles).
